Vercel has emerged as a significant player in AI software, providing developers with cloud infrastructure to deploy agents without server management. Currently, it accounts for 6 million daily deployments, with a substantial portion driven by coding agents. This scale of deployment highlights the growing reliance on AI in software development.

Evolving Focus from Prototyping to Production

CEO Guillermo Rauch noted a shift in the AI community's approach from experimentation to practical implementation. After extensive prototyping last year, which generated many deployed agents, the focus has turned to the operational challenges of integrating these agents into production systems.

Identifying Critical Use Cases

Rauch identifies two primary use cases for agents: coding assistance and internal operations management. The first group is critical for driving token utilization, and the second aims to improve operational efficiency while posing significant data security challenges.

Frameworks for Data Security and Control

To address these challenges, Vercel has introduced the Eve framework, allowing for clearer instructions and skill management in natural language. Additionally, Vercel Sandbox is designed to isolate agents, controlling their data access while providing operational flexibility. This structure aims to mitigate risks associated with data leakage in production settings.

Rauch highlighted the potential risks of AI systems, particularly in environments where proprietary code is involved. By using secure frameworks, Vercel aims to ensure that sensitive data remains protected during AI operations, addressing concerns raised by industry leaders about data training from confidential codebases.
