Konami announces Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse for October release

After nearly a decade since the last major installment, 'Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2', Konami revitalizes its iconic franchise with the upcoming release of 'Belmont’s Curse'. This new game will return to its roots as a side-scroller, appealing to both long-time fans and the new generation raised on the metroidvania genre.

Game Setting and Protagonist

'Belmont’s Curse' is set 23 years after the events of 'Castlevania 3' and aligns with the narrative established in the Netflix adaptation. Players will step into the role of Rose, who embarks on a quest to eliminate ancient evil from the streets of Paris. This setting introduces a historical twist, blending known lore with new gameplay.

Innovative Gameplay Mechanics

The game features a revamped whip mechanic that allows players to perform versatile attacks and mobility maneuvers. Producer Tsutomu Taniguchi noted the challenge of balancing innovation with nostalgia, while marketing director Bérenger Dupré emphasized the importance of the team’s mixed experience with the franchise and modern gaming standards.

Collaboration with Evil Empire

Konami partnered with the external studio Evil Empire, known for their success with 'Dead Cells', to develop 'Belmont’s Curse'. This collaboration is seen as advantageous in bringing fresh ideas while maintaining the essence of the original series, enabling a smooth revival of the beloved franchise.
