Development Background

Last August, the head of product at X, Nikita Bier, stated that the company was assembling a specialized team to enhance the Android experience. This was prioritized after a significant spike in Android downloads in October, indicating strong user interest.

Bier described the undertaking as one of the largest engineering projects in X's history.

Focus on User Experience

The revamped app is intended to be faster, smoother, and more reliable, enhancing the overall user experience on the platform. This rebuild can facilitate the introduction of new features more rapidly.

X has been actively rolling out new functionalities, including X Money and X Chat, which were launched as standalone applications.

Global Market Potential and Future Updates

The new app aims to attract users in global markets, where Android has a larger market share than iOS. Previous performance issues had deterred Android users from fully engaging with the platform. However, Bier mentioned there are still some issues to be addressed, including compatibility with older Android devices and support for X's Spaces feature.

Plans for future updates include enhancing performance features, adding a new video editor, and introducing features like video reactions, cashtags, and customized timelines. Existing users can download the new app via the Google Play Store.
