Google expands Gemini for Home context memory to 15 minutes, rolls out Nest Cam updates

Gemini for Home Enhancements

Google has expanded the conversational memory for Gemini for Home to 15 minutes. This allows users to ask follow-up questions without restating the original command or context, facilitating more natural interactions with smart home devices.

Additionally, Gemini Live, a conversational experience, is now available on the first-generation Google Home Mini and Nest Hub. This feature was previously rolled out to other Nest and Google Home devices.

Google Home App Updates

The Google Home app version 4.22 for Android and iOS introduces several improvements. Automation features now include clearer saving guidance, providing alerts when conditions are set without starters. Controls for smart blinds and window coverings have also been updated for more precise shade positioning.

For smart locks, the app now includes clearer security action disclaimers. These reminders inform users that smart lock passcodes must be manually changed or removed when a member is removed or a home is left.

Bug Fixes and Performance Improvements

The update addresses several bugs and performance issues. The iOS video experience has been enhanced with lower playback error rates and improved stream availability. An issue preventing video feeds from resuming after unlocking a phone has been fixed, along with improved app link navigation and corrected battery alerts for cameras.

Nest Camera Software Update

Google is gradually rolling out a software update for specific Nest Camera models, including the Nest Cam Indoor (wired, 3rd gen), Nest Cam Outdoor (wired, 2nd gen), and Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd gen). This update focuses on more reliable connectivity, aiming to reduce unexpected drops or crashes, and smoother setup processes for these devices.
