The studio's operations are based near Sony Pictures' historic Culver City studio, but they operate from more modest premises, indicating a departure from traditional large-scale studio requirements.

Promise has secured backing from major entities including Google, Silicon Valley venture capitalists, and Disney. This support highlights a growing trend of AI film studios emerging in Hollywood, which could lessen the necessity for traditional studios' extensive sound stages and financing. Real-time AI Application in "Touch Grass"

During early shooting for Promise's AI-enabled horror film, "Touch Grass," an actor's movements were superimposed in real-time onto AI-generated backdrops. For instance, a human actor was filmed against a white sheet, and a Chinese AI model, Seedance 2.5, instantly generated a field of swaying grass as a backdrop. This technology allows for immediate visualization of scenes with actor and backdrop combined on a director's monitor, and backdrops can be easily swapped, such as replacing a field with an underground cavern.

Impact on Production Efficiency

The use of AI models like Seedance 2.5 is expected to significantly reduce production times. The ability to generate and modify backdrops instantly and integrate synthetic elements could streamline the filmmaking process. Netflix also reported using similar technology in 300 of its 1,000 titles in 2026, indicating broader industry adoption of AI in content creation.
