Calendly Enters AI Note-Taking Market

Calendly, a company primarily known for its scheduling and meeting booking software, has launched a new AI-powered note-taking product. This new offering records meeting audio and video, transcribes the content, and then generates summaries, action items, and drafts follow-up emails. The company is also testing a feature that uses system audio for transcription.

Upcoming AI Assistant: Callie

In addition to the note-taker, Calendly plans to release an AI assistant named Callie. This assistant will integrate with Calendly's existing meeting and scheduling stack to help users set up meetings, check availability, and surface context from previous meetings. This expands Calendly's AI capabilities beyond just post-meeting processing.

Targeting Outward-Facing Roles

Calendly CEO Tope Awotona stated that the company aims to automate workflows for its primary users, particularly those in outward-facing roles such as sales and marketing, who frequently have many meetings. The focus is on automating tasks that occur after a meeting has been transcribed, an area Calendly identifies as a significant opportunity.

Competitive Landscape and Privacy Considerations

The market for AI meeting note-takers is competitive, with existing players like Granola, Fireflies, Read AI, Otter, and Fathom, as well as productivity suites like Notion, ClickUp, and Wispr offering similar features. Calendly's note-taker includes privacy measures, informing meeting participants when recording is active via a chat message and allowing users to ask the app to leave the conversation. It can also notify participants before a meeting begins that the call will be recorded, leveraging its integration with Calendly's scheduling system.
