Cloudflare AI Search introduces developer experience improvements and pricing preview

Simplified Search Solution Management

Cloudflare AI Search has introduced developer experience improvements that automate the integration of various Cloudflare primitives, such as Workers AI, AI Gateway, Vectorize, R2, and Browser Run. Previously, developers had to manually combine these components to build a search solution. The new updates aim to provide AI agents with a built-in search engine to access data more efficiently.

Expanded Indexing and Website Integration

Users can now index collections of structured and unstructured data for their agents, including individual files and websites. A new "Discover" parsing option allows websites to be added as sources even without a sitemap, removing a previous requirement. Currently, websites must be zones on the user's Cloudflare account, with plans for broader ownership verification methods.

Public Endpoints and Custom Domains

AI Search now offers a single public endpoint for searching across multiple instances or websites when public URLs are enabled on a namespace. This provides /search and /mcp endpoints that do not require authentication, facilitating sharing with customers. Additionally, users can apply custom domains to these public URLs for branding purposes and add Cloudflare Access for private search instances.

Pricing Model Preview

Cloudflare has released an early preview of the pricing model for AI Search, designed for predictability and scalability. The model includes free embedding and reranking when using default models from the Workers AI catalog, eliminating concerns about token count predictions for these operations.
