Cursor Launches Origin, a Code Hosting and Collaboration Platform

Introduction of Origin Platform

Cursor has introduced Origin, a new platform designed for code hosting and collaboration. This service is currently rolling out in early beta to all users on paid plans, excluding enterprise organizations that opt out. Origin aims to provide essential code management features integrated with Cursor's existing AI agent functionalities.

Core Features and Functionality

Origin includes core features such as repositories, pull requests, and code browsing. Users can create new repositories directly within Origin, which are then hosted on the platform. Each repository includes a dedicated space for pull requests, showing timelines, commits, checks, and file changes, along with options for review, commenting, and merging.

GitHub Integration and Synchronization

A key aspect of Origin is its integration with GitHub. Users can connect their GitHub accounts to Cursor, allowing them to sync existing GitHub repositories. This synchronization is real-time and two-way for pull requests, meaning comments and reactions made in Cursor are reflected on GitHub and vice-versa. GitHub remains the source of truth for synced repositories, with pushes continuing to go to GitHub.

Ecosystem and Third-Party Integrations

Origin is building an app ecosystem to integrate with various development tools. Integrations with Vercel, Depot, and Buildkite are already available. The Vercel integration provides preview deployments for pull requests, while Depot and Buildkite support existing GitHub Actions workflows and native pipelines for CI.

AI Agent Integration

The platform integrates code, pull requests, and AI agents in one location. This allows users to ask Cursor's AI agents questions about the code they are browsing, enabling the agents to answer, make changes, update pull requests, or push branches directly.
