Concurrently, the State Department is reportedly planning to revoke the visas of up to 200,000 asylum seekers. According to The Associated Press, this would represent the largest mass visa revocation in US history. These actions are part of broader efforts to increase deportation numbers by imposing legal hurdles on immigrants.

H-1B visas are frequently associated with the tech industry, with companies like Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft being among the largest employers of H-1B workers. Business leaders and advocates express concern that the Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, which allows international students to work in their field, may also face a $100,000 fee. Todd Schulte, president of FWD.us, an immigration reform organization, stated that these actions are "clearly unlawful" and designed to eliminate the OPT and H-1B programs. He warned of "devastating consequences" for businesses and the economy. The administration's approach is seen as creating more bureaucratic and difficult pathways for legal immigrants, potentially harming businesses and social services nationwide.
