DJI Releases Osmo 360 II Action Camera with 8K 60fps Video and Replaceable Lenses

DJI has launched the Osmo 360 II, a successor to its original panoramic action camera. This new iteration introduces several enhancements, most notably the ability to record video at 8K resolution and 60 frames per second. A significant design change is the inclusion of replaceable lenses, which addresses a common vulnerability in action cameras used for demanding activities.

Performance and Design Improvements

Beyond the higher frame rates, the Osmo 360 II also offers improved dynamic range and better low-light performance. The camera maintains a similar squarish design to its predecessor, featuring an ultrawide lens and a 1/1.1-inch 8K square sensor on each side to capture a full 360-degree view. It includes a 2-inch touch display and a 2,150mAh battery, an increase from the previous model's 1,950 mAh.

Storage and Connectivity

The Osmo 360 II comes with 105GB of internal storage, which is more than double the 47GB found in the Insta360 X6. It supports USB-C for data transfer, achieving speeds of 600 MB/s. This allows for quick transfer of large video files, with 20GB of data (approximately 8.2 minutes of video) transferring in about 32 seconds.

Market Positioning and Availability

Priced at –589 ($680), the Osmo 360 II is positioned below its main competitor, the Insta360 X6, which retails for –699. Despite its improvements, the Osmo 360 II is currently not available in the United States, limiting its market reach. The noticeable video quality improvements are particularly evident in bright sunlight and city nightscapes.
