Past Environmental Achievements

For over a decade, Greenpeace has recognized Apple's environmental initiatives, particularly its leadership in powering data centers with renewable energy. Apple has consistently expanded its data center operations while maintaining a commitment to renewable sources, and has influenced colocation providers to support its 100% renewable energy goal. Last year, Greenpeace East Asia awarded Apple a B+ grade for integrating more renewable energy into its supply chains.

The Defining Test for Apple's Climate Goals

According to Avex Li, a Greenpeace spokesperson, the launch of Siri AI next month will be a "defining test" for Apple's climate commitments. While Apple aims to process as many tasks as possible on-device, complex AI operations will still rely on energy-intensive data centers. Greenpeace urges Apple to demonstrate that AI growth can align with its existing climate goals through absolute emissions reductions, additional renewable energy investments, and the development of longer-lasting products.
