Why Factory Reset a Google Home Mini?

The Google Home Mini, despite being discontinued, remains functional and supported with software updates. Situations requiring a factory reset include unresponsive devices, Wi-Fi connectivity issues, switching Google accounts, or preparing the device for a new owner. This process helps resolve common problems and ensures data privacy when transferring ownership.

Resetting the Original Google Home Mini (1st Gen)

To factory reset the 1st generation Google Home Mini, flip the device over to locate the reset button. This small, etched circle is found on the bottom, just below the power cord. Press and hold this button for approximately five seconds until the reset process begins, then continue holding for another 10 seconds until a confirmation chime is heard.

Resetting the Google Nest Mini (2nd Gen)

For the 2nd generation Google Nest Mini, which shares a similar appearance with the original, the process differs. First, locate the microphone on/off switch on the side of the device and turn it off, which will cause the LED lights to pulse orange. Next, press and hold the center of the device, where the top lights are located, for about five seconds to initiate the reset.

Important Considerations for Resetting

It is important to note that factory resets for these devices cannot be initiated through voice commands or the Google Home app. Physical interaction with the device's buttons or touch controls is required.
