Jaguar Land Rover Debuts 2027 Range Rover Electric Alongside ICE and PHEV Models

New Electric Variant Introduced

Jaguar Land Rover has officially unveiled the 2027 Range Rover Electric, expanding its luxury SUV lineup. This new battery-electric vehicle (BEV) will be offered alongside the existing internal combustion engine (ICE) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions of the Range Rover. The introduction of the electric model signifies JLR's ongoing commitment to its electrification strategy, which has faced some delays due to global events.

Design and Architecture

The Range Rover Electric maintains a visual similarity to its combustion-powered siblings, with minor aerodynamic adjustments such as a revised front grille and more efficient wheels. The absence of tailpipes is the primary external indicator of its electric powertrain. The vehicle is built on JLR’s MLA architecture, which was developed over a decade ago to support various powertrain types, including electric.

Powertrain Specifications

The electric Range Rover features identical permanent-magnet synchronous motors at both the front and rear, each producing 349 hp (260 kW). The combined output of the powertrain is 542 hp (404 kW) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. Despite the addition of a battery and drive units, the BEV variant weighs only 165 lbs (75 kg) more than the V8 model, largely due to the removal of differentials and driveshafts.

Market Interest and Positioning

JLR has reported significant early interest, with 80,000 individuals expressing intent to purchase, half of whom are from North America. Approximately 70% of these potential buyers are new to the Range Rover brand, and 20% already own an electric vehicle. The 2027 Range Rover Electric is positioned as a factory-supported alternative to aftermarket electric conversions of classic Range Rovers, offering modern safety features and OEM backing at a starting price of $138,000.
