Introducing MainstreamOS

MainstreamOS is a new Linux distribution designed to simplify the use of Arch Linux and the Hyprland tiling window manager. The distribution aims to provide a user-friendly experience for both new and experienced Linux users, offering a polished desktop environment.

The developers state that MainstreamOS is an "open system that feels right whether it's your first Linux or your tenth," emphasizing that it minimizes the need for terminal commands and allows changes to be undone.

Simplified Setup and Customization

Upon installation, MainstreamOS presents a setup tool that allows users to configure the system for specific purposes such as gaming, video editing, or content creation. Applications can be added later via a graphical user interface (GUI) like GNOME Software.

A dedicated Hyprland GUI configuration tool is included, which simplifies desktop customization and demonstrates the power of the user interface.

Hyprland Simplification and Aesthetics

MainstreamOS customizes Hyprland to offer a visual experience similar to macOS, making it more accessible and aesthetically pleasing. This customization includes enabling mouse interaction, which is often limited in other Hyprland configurations.

The OS features a customizable left sidebar, currently focused on AI integration, supporting models such as Gemini, Claude, Codex, and Mistral. A right sidebar, resembling the one in macOS, provides quick settings.
