Microsoft has introduced Azure Multicloud Interconnect, a new offering aimed at streamlining the process of connecting Azure and AWS environments. Previously, establishing such connections required extensive planning, configuration, and ongoing management of multiple components across both cloud providers.

The new service fundamentally changes this by abstracting underlying complexities. Through collaboration between Microsoft and AWS using the standardized Open API specification, customers can now establish dedicated private connectivity with a simplified experience, allowing them to focus on application delivery and data movement rather than infrastructure management.

Designed for AI Workloads

Azure Multicloud Interconnect is built to support the demands of modern AI workloads, which frequently require access to data distributed across different cloud environments. Enterprises are increasingly building applications that span cloud boundaries while maintaining performance, security, and compliance.

The service provides high-capacity private connectivity that extends to Azure Private Link, creating an end-to-end private path between the clouds. This combination of performance and operational simplicity aims to enable faster development of AI-enabled applications and services.

Enhanced Performance and Security

The new interconnect solution offers a high-bandwidth and predictable path for deploying multicloud architectures, particularly for mission-critical workloads. It includes MACsec security out-of-the-box and promises four-nines availability, along with scalability options.

Robert Kennedy, VP of Network Services, stated that the initiative demonstrates what is possible when both sides commit to a high standard, addressing customer requests for a better way to connect workloads spanning AWS and Azure.
