PipePipe is an independent hard fork of NewPipe, an open-source YouTube client for Android. The project diverged from NewPipe in early 2022 due to differences in development philosophy, meaning PipePipe does not receive updates from or contribute updates to the original NewPipe project. This separation allows for quicker fixes and frequent feature updates specific to PipePipe's development goals.

Key Feature Additions

The new client integrates SponsorBlock, enabling users to skip sponsored segments on YouTube and BiliBili. It also restores YouTube dislikes through the ReturnYouTubeDislike feature. Other additions include displaying original YouTube titles, login capabilities for restricted content, and live chat overlays in a danmaku style.

Playback and User Experience Improvements

PipePipe supports AV1 and VP9 codecs for efficient, high-quality video playback and includes a music player mode with background playback. Users can utilize advanced search filters, filter content by keywords or channels, and block Shorts and paid videos. Navigation is enhanced with swipe-to-seek, fullscreen gestures, and a long-press option to speed up playback. A sleep timer and the ability to download full playlists are also available.

Privacy and Community

The application states that login cookies are used only for specified scenarios, such as retrieving playback streams for YouTube, and can be configured in "Cookie Functions." The developer welcomes issues and pull requests, encouraging others to fork the repository for creating their own services. Support for the project is sought through platforms like Ko-Fi and Liberapay.
