Roku Auto Power Saving Feature

Roku streaming devices include an auto power saving feature that can cause them to turn off unexpectedly. This function puts the device into a low power mode after 20 minutes of no streaming or user interaction. When activated, the Roku attempts to turn off the connected television.

Affected Roku Models

Not all Roku devices have this auto power saving feature. Models that support it include Roku Express 4K (3940), Roku Express 4K+ (3941), Roku Streaming Stick 4K (3820), Roku Streaming Stick 4K+ (3821), Roku 4 (4400), Roku Ultra (4800, 4802, 4850), and Roku Ultra LT (4801).

Disabling the Feature

To disable the auto power saving feature, users can navigate to the Roku remote's Home screen, select Settings, then Power, and finally Auto power savings. Unchecking the box next to "After 20 minutes of no interaction" will prevent the device from automatically powering down. This setting will need to be re-adjusted if the Roku device is reset.

Troubleshooting Persistent Power Issues

If a Roku device continues to turn off after disabling the power saving feature, or if the device model does not support this feature, users should check for connection issues. Ensuring both the Roku and TV are connected to reliable power sources, potentially plugging the Roku directly into a wall outlet instead of a TV's USB port, can resolve problems. Verifying secure HDMI connections and checking the Roku remote's batteries are also recommended steps.
