Roland Launches FP-40 Digital Piano with Built-in Wi-Fi and Piano Sphere App

New Digital Piano with Wi-Fi Connectivity

Roland introduced the FP-40 digital piano, which includes built-in Wi-Fi. While Bluetooth connectivity is common in digital pianos, integrated Wi-Fi is less typical. This feature allows the FP-40 to connect directly to a home network.

Integration with Piano Sphere Teaching App

The primary function of the Wi-Fi connectivity is to integrate with Roland's new teaching application, Piano Sphere. This app provides guidance, real-time feedback, and a library of songs and courses. The Wi-Fi connection is intended to offer a faster and more seamless experience for users compared to Bluetooth connections found in other digital pianos.

The Piano Sphere app, controlled via a smartphone or tablet, includes features like automatic playing history recording and assistance prompts when a player struggles. This visual interface is designed to reduce lag during practice sessions.

Automatic Updates and Sound Technology

Another benefit of Wi-Fi is the ability for both the Piano Sphere app and the piano's internal software to receive automatic updates. Roland states these updates will include new services, feature enhancements, and ecosystem integrations.

The FP-40 incorporates Roland's Piano Reality Sound Engine, designed to replicate the sound of an acoustic piano. It also features fully weighted hammer action keys with a triple-sensor system for responsiveness and expression. A new speaker system aims to enhance low-register depth. The piano also includes a Bluetooth receiver for streaming audio.
