Bungie to restore vaulted Destiny 2 content, reversing six-year-old decision

Bungie has announced it will bring back content previously removed from Destiny 2, such as campaigns, destinations, and raids. This move directly reverses the Destiny Content Vault policy, which was established six years ago and led to the removal of older content that players had purchased access to.

Addressing Player Feedback and Trust

The developer acknowledged that the removal of content negatively impacted player trust and enjoyment. Bungie stated that while the original decision cannot be changed, they are committed to restoring these parts of Destiny's history to make amends. This decision follows recent community efforts, including a 'Sunrise' offline preservation mod that allowed access to some vaulted areas.

Technical Challenges and Future Plans

Restoring the content is not a simple process, as Bungie must update lighting, encounters, combatants, and other underlying systems to meet current Destiny 2 standards. This work will take time to ensure stability and gameplay quality. Bungie views this restoration as a foundational step for future stories and games within the Destiny universe, though there is no mention of a Destiny 3 sequel at this time.

In parallel, Bungie also noted that its extraction shooter, Marathon, did not meet player expectations and will evolve into a deeper survival experience to attract more players.
