Dropbox updates Terms of Service effective January 1, 2027

New Terms of Service Announced

Dropbox has released updated Terms of Service, which were posted on September 1, 2026. These new terms will govern the use of Dropbox's services, client software, and websites starting January 1, 2027.

Scope of the Agreement

The Terms cover user access and use of Dropbox's offerings. For users residing outside of the United States, Canada, and Mexico, the agreement is with Dropbox International Unlimited Company. Users in North America will have their agreement with Dropbox, Inc.

Account Management and Policies

The updated terms also address account registration and the ability to join multiple Dropbox Teams or non-Dropbox Team plans, referred to as workspaces, using the same email address. Each workspace is considered a separate account, governed by its respective legal agreement. The document also references the Privacy Policy and Acceptable Use Policy, which explain data handling and user responsibilities.

Impact on Team Members

For members of paid multi-user teams, or trials of such teams, where an administrator controls the account, the team will also be bound by a Dropbox Services Agreement or another agreement between Dropbox and the team. Individual users within these teams remain subject to the general Terms of Service. Actions taken on one account, such as suspension or deletion, may affect access to other accounts.
