Max Studio Tools Releases C++ DSP Modules for Max/MSP and Ableton Live

New DSP External Suite Released

Max Studio Tools has announced the release of a new suite of C++ DSP externals. These modules are designed for use within Max/MSP and are also integrated into multiple Max for Live devices by Nyquist Limited, extending their functionality to Ableton Live users.

Emulated Studio Gear

The suite includes emulations of essential studio equipment, specifically five types of equalizers and five types of compressors. The equalizers include Air EQ, Bloom EQ, Contour EQ, Focus EQ, and Silk EQ, each with distinct characteristics such as broad high-frequency bands, dual boost/cut, wide-shelf shaping, precise control, and smooth musicality. The compressors offered are Glide, Level, Punch, Smooth, and Snap, providing optical, FET, Vari-mu, and VCA compression types with varied attack, character, and program-dependent timing.

Each of these emulated devices supports optional oversampling up to 8x, which can enhance audio quality by reducing aliasing artifacts.

Technical Details and Dependencies

The build script for these externals has been tested on MacOS, with support for Windows cross-compilation via mingw-w64. The project relies on several open-source dependencies including CMake, Cycling74's min-devkit, r8brain-free-src, Clang (for MacOS), and llvm-mingw (for Windows). The repository also incorporates modified or ported code from various existing DSP projects, acknowledging their contributions to the development of these tools.
