FCC Scrutiny and Import Restrictions

The decision to halt preorders likely stems from recent actions by the FCC, which is cracking down on companies like Xtra for facilitating the entry of banned DJI technology into the United States. Without FCC authorization, Xtra cannot legally import, sell, or market radio-equipped devices in the US. The FCC proposed a $25,000 fine against Xtra on July 10th for failing to respond to inquiries about its technology's origin and proposed a retroactive ban on selling existing products on July 17th.

Background on DJI-Related Brands

Prior to the US government's drone ban, DJI reportedly introduced new brands to sell its technology in the market. Xtra already sells five versions of DJI cameras, and Skyrover, another brand selling DJI tech, has appeared in major retailers like Best Buy and Amazon. The US government has not publicly provided evidence to justify its drone ban or explained why pocket cameras are included.
