Tecno unveils 'Bezelless' concept phone with truly bezel-free display

Tecno's Bezel-Free Concept

Tecno, a smartphone brand known for budget devices, has introduced a concept phone named "Bezelless." This device aims to push the boundaries of screen-to-body ratio by eliminating the black borders, or bezels, around the display. The phone was presented ahead of its unveiling at the IFA trade show in Berlin.

Display Technology and Design

The Bezelless concept phone features a 6.78-inch, 1.5K, 144Hz screen that appears to have no black border when viewed head-on. Tecno achieved this by using a design with two layers of cover glass. The top layer extends to the edge of the phone's frame, while the lower glass layer and the OLED panel itself extend underneath the frame, concealing the inactive edge of the display.

Manufacturing Challenges

This design approach required a reversal of traditional phone assembly. The display is mounted from the rear of the phone rather than the front. Securing the screen from the front involves a custom adhesive placed between the frame and the lower piece of glass. While the frame might be slightly thicker than on other modern smartphones, the difference is minimal.

Concept Status and Industry Impact

The Bezelless is strictly a concept phone and is not intended for commercial sale. Its purpose is to demonstrate the technical feasibility of a truly bezel-free smartphone display. While Tecno claims the device "redefines how users will interact with their phones in the AI era," its primary significance lies in showcasing a potential future direction for smartphone screen design.
