Apple Revamps iOS 27 for iPhone Duo Foldable, Adds Apple Pencil Support

iOS 27 Redesigned for Foldable Form Factor

Apple has revamped iOS 27 specifically for the iPhone Duo, its first foldable phone. The redesign addresses the additional screen real estate and multitasking capabilities offered by a foldable device. This adaptation draws on Apple's existing experience with iPadOS, which already supports multitasking on larger screens.

Optimized Controls and App Layouts

The traditional iOS 27 controls have been repositioned to the side of the screen when the iPhone Duo is open, making them more accessible for thumb use. Additionally, iOS 27 automatically adjusts the layout of every application to utilize the increased interior screen space and the wider aspect ratio of the external display.

Apple Pencil Integration

The iPhone Duo marks the first time an iPhone will support Apple Pencil. Users will be able to use the Apple Pencil on both the outer and inner displays. While the device will support Apple Pencil with USB-C, this feature may not be available at launch and is expected to be rolled out later in the year.

Adaptive Display Functionality

Given the iPhone Duo's unique multi-screen and flexible display, Apple has implemented features to ensure usability in various orientations. When the inner display is partially folded like a book, iOS 27 moves content away from the fold to maintain visibility. The device can also be folded into a tent-like position, allowing users to watch videos on the external screen.
